Day eight and nine highlights

The USA Women’s softball team set an Olympic record today by scoring nine runs in the first inning. They’re now in the medal round and will face Japan on Wednesday. The USA Men’s Basketball defeated Spain over the weekend and will face Germany today.  The USA Women’s Basketball easily defeated New Zealand 96-60 will and will play South Korea in the quarterfinals on Tuesday. In Track and Field, Americans Jeremy Wariner and LaShawn Merritt have qualified for the 400-meter semifinals.  Also for Team USA, Venus and Serena Williams captured tennis gold in the women’s Olympic doubles yesterday.  While in Beach Volleyball, Misty Mae-Treanor and Kerri Walsh are in the semi-finals after their win against Brazil.  On the men’s side, Phil Dalhausser and Todd Rogers are on to the final four after defeating Germany.
