<itunes:summary>Therersquo;s plenty of football to talk about on Sports Spectrum.

The NCAA Division II playoffs start today in communities across the nation. In light of that we visit with the long time head coach of one of the teams in the playoffs, Danny Hale of Bloomsburg University. Danny is one of the most underrated coaches in the nation and we hear how a coachrsquo;s influence impacts his players and community.

We also visit with the back up quarterback for the New York Giants, David Carr. David is a former first round draft pick of the Houston Texans. He was traded to Carolina and is now in New York. Hersquo;s gone from being the first pick of the draft to an NFL back-up. But therersquo;s more to the David Carr story than what happens on the field.

College football recruiting has become a sport of its own. Fans across the country like to know how their favorite team is doing. We talk with the best recruiting analyst in the business, Tom Lemming of CSTV. Tom also sees his business as a unique service. Itrsquo;s heart warming to hear Tomrsquo;s stories about young athletes.

Don't miss an hour of football conversation on Sports Spectrum Saturday.</itunes:summary>

<itunes:summary>On this edition Sports Spectrum we talk about the big week in the NBA. The season is in full swing and on Tuesday there was a blockbuster trade that sent standout guard Allen Iverson to the Detroit Pistons and Chauncey Billups to the Denver Nuggets.

We discuss this trade and other NBA issues with one of our NBA analysts, sports writer Darryl Howerton. We also discuss the Lakers and the long term contract with young post player Andrew Bynum.

We visit with two kicking specialists in the NFL. First, we talk with veteran punter Hunter Smith of the Indianapolis Colts. The Colts have had to play through adversity this season and are off to an up and down start.

We also talk with veteran kicker John Carney with the New York Giants. John's role in New York may not be long term. He was released earlier by the Saints and picked up by the Giants after an injury to their kicker. He talks about lifersquo;s uncertainties.

Finally, we get an early season look at the NHL. We visit with a former NHL player for Detroit, Winnipeg, Toronto and the New York Rangers, Mark Osborne. Mark shares his observations on the early season NHL news and looks ahead to the rest of the year.

Itrsquo;s an hour of Sports, real-life issues in the NBA, the NFL, the NHL and faithmdash;this weekrsquo;s Sports Spectrum.</itunes:summary>

<itunes:summary>The college football season has been exciting in the Big 12. The league is known for its quarterbacksmdash;Chase Daniel of Missouri, Todd Reesing of Kansas, Graham Harrell of Texas Tech, Colt McCoy of Texas and Sam Bradford of Oklahoma have all become household names.

But under the radar, a Big 12 team thatrsquo;s been improving all season is the Cornhuskers of Nebraska. The pride in Nebraska football is being restored under the toughness of first year head coach Bo Pelini.

On this edition of Sports Spectrum Today, we talk with an assistant coach at the University of Nebraska, Ron Brown. Ron had coached for 17 years under Tom Osborne. During that time Nebraska won three national titles in 1994, 1995 and 1997. Ron was dismissed by Coach Bill Callahan in 2002 and worked for Mission Nebraska and the Fellowship of Christian Athletes in the four years that followed.

Hersquo;s thankful to be back and shares a few perspectives that have given him an even greater passion for coaching. We visit with Ron Brown on Sports Spectrum Today.</itunes:summary>

Hubert was a college star at the University of North Carolina from 1988-92, then played 12 years in the NBA. He played for the Knicks for his first five seasons and played in Toronto, Dallas, Detroit, Washington and New Jersey in the seasons that followed.

Hubert talks about his college years and the challenges of playing in the NBA as young, single man. Hersquo;s now a studio analyst on college basketball for ESPN. Working in that role is really quite miraculous for Hubert. He tells us why and offers advice for many young basketball players.

<itunes:summary>Itrsquo;s not been a very enjoyable NFL season in Indianapolis and it wasnrsquo;t supposed to be this way. The Colts opened Lucas Oil Field, an extraordinary new stadium in August.

The new stadium honors General Manager Bill Polian, head coach Tony Dungy and quarterback Peyton Manning. Itrsquo;s a tribute to the the franchise since Dungy's arrival in 2002. The Colts have been known for their consistency and last year they became the first team in NFL history to win 12 or more games in a season five years in a row.

This season things are different, the Colts have been wracked with injuries. Manning missed all of pre-season. The offensive line has suffered numerous injuries. Pro Bowl center Jeff Saturday is playing hurt. Former AFC defensive MVP Bob Sanders has been hurt at safety. The list goes on and on.

On Monday night, things didnrsquo;t get any better, Indy lost to undefeated Tennessee in Nashville. As a result the team has staggered to an uncharacteristic 3-4 start. Now the Colts are four games out of first place heading into the second half of the season and the playoffs are in jeopardy. The schedule doesnrsquo;t get any easiermdash;New England comes to town for a Sunday night game.

Therersquo;s an old saying in football that says "you are never as good as you think you are when you winhellip;and you are never as bad as you think you are when you lose." That may be the case in Indy where the national media is starting to assume that the Colts are getting old.

It might be that the Indianapolis Colts are, right now a victim of their own success. This may be a down season, but the vision for this franchise will not change. Theyrsquo;ve won with success. Theyrsquo;ve won consistently and theyrsquo;ve won with good character. None of that has changed. The Colts may be struggling now, but theyrsquo;ll win again.

Today talk with the veteran center of the Indianapolis Colts, Jeff Saturday and rookie tight end, Jacob Tamme.

Jeff missed some of the early part of the season due to injuries. Hersquo;s back and playing now, but not at 100 per cent. He shares his thoughts on why hersquo;s playing even though injured and how tough it was not to play early in the season.

Jacob Tamme talks about making the adjustment from college football to the NFL and both players talk about what itrsquo;s like to play for Tony Dungy. Both have seen Tony in good and bad times and they share how his faith impacts the team.

		<itunes:summary>ATLANTA MOTOR SPEEDWAY

- Carl Edwards won in Atlanta and returned to Victory Circle for the 7th time this season.

- Jimmie Johnson found a way to finish 2nd, so now he has a 183-point lead over Edwards and 185 over Greg Biffle who finished 10th. Jimmie actually went a lap down when he received a speeding penalty on his second pit stop. That put him a lap down, in 30th place, and 10th in order to receive the ldquo;Lucky Dogrdquo; award (the first car a lap down to the leader is given a free pass to return to the lead lap when a caution comes out). When the caution came out the next time, Jimmiersquo;s pit crew performed so well that he passed all nine cars that entered the pits before him. Twenty laps later, he got the ldquo;Lucky Dogrdquo; and made his way to 10th place when the last caution of the day came out with 10 laps to go. The leaders stayed on track, afraid to give up track position. The 5th-9th place cars took two tires, and Jimmie took four tires. On the restart, with eight laps to go, Jimmie immediately passed three cars that had taken only two tires and made it all the way to 2nd place.

- Jimmie could miss a race and still be in the points lead. No one has ever come back from this large of a points spread with just three races remaining; however, this is racing. Jimmie could be wrecked by someone, or he could have a parts failure. Jimmie could finish 43rd the next three weeks in a row; he could, but he probably wonrsquo;t.

PIT NOTE

Jimmie made his first mistake of the Chase. His speeding penalty was his fault; he misjudged his speed entering, and locked up his brakes and slid onto pit road. He restarted 30th and was not making great gains on the cars ahead of him; actually, he was in line to be passed by the leader unless a caution came out. If he had finished even 20th, his lead over Edwards would have dropped to only about 105 points.

Instead, his pit crew saved the day. First, they calmly did their jobs, even though they knew Jimmie had made a mistake and he would be penalized a lap. Then, the crew performed beyond expectation which allowed Jimmie to pass nine cars on pit road. After that, his crew chief called for four tires with 8 laps to go. Only then, did Jimmiersquo;s skills make a significant difference.

Analyzing the strength of the whole #48 team can point to various attributes: they trust in each other; they stayed calm in the mist of trouble; they never raised their voices when someone failed, but they encouraged each team member to perform to the level of excellence, which everyone on the team is capable of doing.

This reminds me of Jesus when he was asleep in the bow of the boat when a storm came up on the Sea of Galilee. His twelve disciples panicked (not Jimmiersquo;s lsquo;disciplesrsquo;) and upon awakening Jesus, vigorously questioned His sanity and care of them. Jesus then used his power over the elements He had created (Colossians 1) to calm the storm and teach his disciples about his being God incarnate.

Storms will come in everyonersquo;s life. Some are caused by individuals who have an effect on our life (such as Hamlin almost spinning into the side of Jimmie as he passed him with 2 laps to go), but many (maybe most) are the result of our own mistakes (as Jimmie did entering pit road). Regardless of the cause, the cure is the same; Jesus cares about everyone. He knows we will fail at times; therefore, He sent the Holy Spirit to be with us on this earth until He returns. The Holy Spirit is called the Comforter; that is His job as the third member of the Trinity. When we rely on the Comforter, calmness is available to us when there is a storm in our life. A popular saying reveals that ldquo;sometimes Jesus calms the storm; sometimes Jesus calms the person in the mist of the storm.rdquo; We should rely on our Comforter when we are embarrassed by our own actions. We should rely on the Comforter in others, when their actions cause us harm. Relying on ...</itunes:summary>
